Obituary

Daniel Bautista Martinez was born in El Llano de Elías Pińa, Dominican Republic, on May 22, 1944, to Tulio Bautista and Herminda Martinez – both deceased. The third son out of that union, he began his professional career as a primary school teacher, where he eventually met his life partner, Gladys Ferreras Méndez, whom he married on June 2, 1968.

Daniel was a lawyer and retired from administrative positions at the Ministry of Education in the Dominican Republic. Daniel enjoyed spending time between the Dominican Republic and the United States with his children and grandchildren. An avid traveler, he had the opportunity to visit several countries in Europe, South America, and Asia.

A passionate follower of the political world, it was not uncommon to have hours-long animated conversations on theoretical and practical topics about social conditions and necessary changes in his native country. Daniel loved chocolate and classic merengue. He was a fan of the Tigres del Licey baseball team, as well as an excellent pool and ping pong player, but even better at his favorite pastime: dominoes.

Daniel was a dedicated father to his children Victor, Tulio (deceased), Hector, Magnolia Indira, Mary Laura, Danelis, and Carlos Daniel (deceased), who blessed him with six beloved grandchildren: Tulio, Sebastian, Ernesto, Emma, Dylan, and Oliver, as well as his son-in-law and daughters-in-law, Jay, Mariuxi, and Sulis.

In addition to his devoted wife and family, Daniel leaves to mourn his siblings, nieces, and nephews as well numerous extended family members, and friends.

The family is grateful for the support and care Daniel received from the staff at Mount Sinai Hospital during his fight with cancer. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request those who wish to express sympathy to make a donation for cancer research in Daniel’s name, at: https://www.msmc.com/foundation/in-memory-or-in-honor/.
