Denise Watkins Obituary

Denise Evenlyn Watkins was born September 16, 1951 in Harlem NYC. First born of four, to Lucius who (preceded her in death) and Gloria Watkins who joined her in death only one day before.
Denise attended school in New York city, where she ultimately secured an associates degree in finance.
Denise, or  ( Neicey) as she is affectionately known, met and married William Gray. From this union born unto them a son Akmir K. gray. Denise, who was fun loving and free spirited, was tall and beautiful just like her mom. Denise loved plants and caring for them was second nature. She had a green thumb and could bring any plant back to life with her love and light. Denise was very intelligent and spent much of her time reading. She loved novels and always had Essence, Jet and Ebony magazines on her coffee table. . She was the glue to our family and loved bringing us together for family socials. Denise took care of her siblings growing up and adored her one and only son, Akmir who was the apple of her eye. Denise loved music and enjoyed dancing. She would listen to Phyllis Hyman, Teena Marie, Luther Vandross and Goarge Benson. Anytime she would hear “ your a native New yorker” she would stop whatever she was doing to sing along. While she spent some time in Brooklyn, Big Sis would return to where she was born and raised in Harlem. Her laughter was loud and infectious, causing others in her presence to laugh too. In her perfect grammar she would always greet people with her beautiful smile. Just like her mother, Denise enjoyed fashion and liked to wear the latest styles. In later years Denise enjoyed caring for her grandson, taking care of her cats and loving on her family. Denise had a zest for life and lived hers to the fullest. Denise was the Big Sister who made sure everything was as it needed to be.
Denise will be missed by her siblings and family members.
On the day that she was born September 16, 2021 Denise left peacefully in her sleep to join her Lord and Saviour,  and now her Loving Mother, in a place prepared for them.
