Filomena Colon, born July 2, 1930 in Mayaguez, PR to Susana Cerezo and Domingo Colon came to the U.S. in 1951. She birthed her 4 children - William, Robert, Beatrice and Eddie in NYC eventually settling and raising them in East Harlem.
Filo worked at the Bronx V.A. Hospital for many years in the Food Service Department, worked for a period for The Partnership for the Homeless and was an active volunteer and long time member of the Morris Heights Senior Center, eventually moving to the Mount Carmel Senior Center closer to home.
She surrendered to The Good Lord on March 14, 2024 after battling cancer and is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
