LaRussia Renee Douglas-Sparks

It is with deep sadness that we announce that our dear mother LaRussia Renee Douglas-Sparks passed away on June 27th, 2023 at the age of 72 years old. LaRussia, who was also affectionately known as “Rush” to those who were closest to her, was a doting mother, wife, sister, and friend. LaRussia hailed from the Saint Nicholas housing projects in West Harlem and later migrated with her husband to Metro North Riverview Apartments. There, she became a pillar of the community and was known by many. 

LaRussia was preceded in death by her late father Spencer Frederick Collins Douglas, her late mother Ruby Olivia Hoggard-Douglas and most recently her sister Zerona Olivia Douglas. LaRussia is survived by her husband Johnnie, her children, Marcelett, Chandel, Capri, and Christian, her grandchildren, Robert, Khalil, Olivia, and Charlotte, her nephew, Courtney, and her son-in-laws, Manuel and Rodney. 

If you would like to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend the Memorial service that will be held in her honor at Manhattan Funeral Services located at 300 East 104 Street, New York, NY, 10029 on Sunday, July 9th, 2023. The service will be held from 1:00-4:00pm.
