In Loving Memory of Nereida Ortiz
"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails." Corinthians 13:7–8 "Todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta. El amor nunca deja de ser." Corintios 13:7–8
Nereida Ortiz passed away on June 1, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on November 22, 1938, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, she was the beloved daughter of Carmen Garcia Lopez and Bernardino Ortiz.
Nereida was the eldest sister of Isabel, Ramon, Antonio, Rosa, and Ruben. Throughout her life, she carried the love and strength of family with her, maintaining close bonds and serving as a source of guidance, support, and wisdom to those she loved.
In 1962, Nereida made the courageous journey to New York City in search of new opportunities and a better future. Through hard work, determination, and love, she built a life centered on family, friendship, and community.
Nereida was a devoted mother to her five children: Carmen, Edwin (who preceded her in death), Eduardo, Jim, and Valerie. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Daniel Jr., Rebecca, Jessica, Edward, Sofia, Gianna, and Rio, and a cherished great-grandmother to James, Victoria, and Cristian.
She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Among them were Sheila, Victor, Andrew, Axel, Janice, Christina, Michael, Marta, Jeanette, Awilda and Maribel to name just a few. Nereida's love extended far beyond her immediate family, and she embraced her role as aunt with the same warmth, affection, and generosity that defined every aspect of her life.
Nereida will always be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and boundless compassion. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, cared for, and loved. Her generosity and warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was truly the life of the party. Nereida loved music, laughter, and celebrating with family and friends. Whether at a family gathering or a special occasion, she could often be found dancing the night away, especially to her beloved salsa music. Her vibrant energy, joyful smile, and infectious laughter brought happiness to countless lives.
Although her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in the memories she created, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and all those whose lives were enriched by her presence.
Nereida will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
