Wilmouth Josiah

Wilmouth Wilberforce Josiah, 82, passed away on 3rd March 2023 at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.  He was the husband of Vacistella “Valerie” Josiah who predeceased him in 2007.

Born in St. Paul’s Parish in Antigua and Barbuda, West Indies, and emigrated in the early 80’s to the United States in search of a better life for his family.

He was known affectionately as ‘Deacon Jo’ at Nazareth Baptist Church in the Bronx where he served faithfully for many years until he fell ill in October 2022. During his time as deacon he helped to maintain the church, organise charity drives and church events including baptisms. Wilmouth loved music and singing in church, particularly traditional hymns. 

He leaves behind 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and a wide extended family throughout the United States and abroad.
